According to the Ancient Romans, the “Dog Days” of summer refer to the hottest days of the year, known for sultry temperatures and a scorching sun that beams from the cloudless sky. From July 3 through August 11, the whole Northern Hemisphere is said to be doggin’ it, with little break from the heat until September is just within reach.
It comes as no surprise, then, that during this part of summer, the most hydrating and refreshing fruit is in season– watermelon! It’s funny how the earth takes care of us, isn’t it?
In honor of this lovely time, I’ve crafted a refreshing, 3-ingredient treat that you can enjoy at any time on these hot summer days…
Watermelon, Lime & Cinnamon Popsicles
- 2-3 cups watermelon chopped
- 2 limes juiced
- 1-2 teaspoons cinnamon ground (depending on taste preference)
Blend ingredients until smooth. Taste and alter flavor if desired. Pour liquid into popsicle holders.
Place in freezer for at least 3 hours or until firm/frozen. Remove and enjoy!
^^ Post-run snack!
Some even become 2-toned like this! Lime juice is the clear part…
